International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) is a two-year educational program primarily aimed at 16 to 19-year-olds in 140 countries around the world. The program offers a degree that is accepted worldwide for entry into higher education and is recognized by almost universities.
The program helps students develop deep and broad knowledge, education towards the all-around development to help students thrive physically, intellectually, emotionally, and morally.
IB is one of the top academic programs in the world. Each subject in the program is divided into 2 levels: Standard Level and Higher Level. At the basic and advanced levels, the general knowledge framework is relatively similar. The main difference is the depth of study at HL.
Students must study at least 6 subjects, of which 3 to 4 subjects are at HL. Each subject will be selected from each different subject group, the subject in group 6 can be replaced with another subject selected from group 1 to group 5.

What is the difference between IB Diploma and IB Certificate?
IB Diploma
The program requires 6 subjects from different groups at different levels and to earn IB Diploma, you need to complete Creativity Activity Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Extended Essay (EE). If it is not possible to obtain an E in both EE and TOK, there are additional requirements and a total score above 24 points to receive IB Diploma.
IB Certificate
Students can apply for an IB Certificate or if they do not meet the score requirements, they will be issued a Certificate.
Students will not need to take CAS, EE, TOK but will need to take a career-based course called Personal and Professional Skills (PPS) aka Ethics (PPS). There is no need to write an EE instead, students need to complete the Reflective Project. It is a 3,000 word essay based on the ethical dilemma of your choice of career.
After understanding the difference between IB Diploma and IB Certificate, parents and students will hesitate to choose between Diploma or Certificate.

Should choose to study IB Diploma or IB Certificate?
When you complete IB Diploma program, you will be exempted from credit if you meet the school’s requirements for completing the program with high scores.
If you are preparing to study IB program, you should choose IB Diploma. If you are not able to complete all the exams of 6 subjects without completing the level requirements, you will receive IB certificate.
If you feel that your study capacity is not suitable, you should choose to study IB Certificate from the very first time to focus only on the most important subjects that match your abilities and interests.
